She’s also the only human to ever best him in a sparring match, but that was beginners luck and had nothing to do with the fact that he couldn’t stop thinking of how he wished she would see him as more than just a partner at work. Not long ago I read and reviewed Her Vampire’s Promise and after that I bought this one, the second in this series of novellas. While the first one left me hanging and wishing for more, this one actually wrapped up the story nicely.These novellas feature a group of vampires called The Guard, that are trying to shut down the evil workings of the Panthera Corporation-something not exactly easy to do. Hunter is a vampire partnered with a human named Alice. She’s as feisty as the day is long, beautiful, and determined to be just as good a field agent as Hunter. They are assigned to hang out in Central City-the town closest to the Panthera Corporation, looking for anyone with information about the workings of the corporation and any upcoming plans of the corporation, etc. Not much is going on, on that front, so Alice spends a good bit of her time rescuing stray dogs as they cruise the town. And both of them are in love with each other, although neither one has acted on it.
Since this is a novella, I am not going to go into the story very deeply. I will say that while there is not as much Panthera action as the first novella, the author eventually took the story in a heartwarming direction that I actually quite enjoyed. Of course there is the romance component, but if your looking for a steamy romance, this one would disappoint. There is however one humorous sexy type scene, but I wouldn’t call it steamy-it just made me laugh and say huh? out loud to be truthful. I will say that there is plenty of chemistry between the two, and some close to steamy moments.
I enjoyed the characters and as with the first one, I was wishing for a longer story. But as I mentioned before, I enjoyed this ending far better than the first one. We do get to see a bit more about what happened with the characters from the first one, and Garrison, the vampire I didn’t like, kind of redeemed himself a bit in this one. I liked the read enough that I have already bought the next one, A Vampire’s Passion. I would recommend it to adult paranormal romance fans. (RabidReads.com)

Hunter and Alice have been partners for over 2 years, and fighting their attraction to each other all that time. Alice is a kick a** human fighting with the Central City vampires to protect humans and the city from Raymond Tyrone's evil Panthera corporation. Hunter is an elite fighter with the same group. The couple are about to realize that their attraction to each other isn't going away...it is getting stronger. Alice collects hurt, stray animals and brings them home to the compound, with the understanding that she find homes for them, but she has 14 dogs. Now her boss, Serge, has given her one day to find homes for them. He relents and agrees to let her keep 2 and her partner can keep 2 but she must find homes for the rest. A doggie adoption night is scheduled by Garrison and Hunter and all of the dogs are placed...with members of the compound. Every range of emotion can be found in these pages.Travel the road with this couple as they live, fight and love their way to their HEA. Ms. Rose has made the world of Central City and the characters who live there a wonderful world building and storyline experience. I am voluntarily reviewing this book without compensation. This book is the second in the Romance in Central City series and there was a cross over of some of the characters. I was in love with the fact that Garrison's character was in this story, he is the best!! I enjoyed this story better than the first. It had a great beginning, middle and ending.
I think that the romance building between Hunter and Alice is a bit on the smoldering to reality side and I just loved that. I liked Alice's character when we are talking about her being a kick-butt officer whipping out justice on bad guys but when we start going into the realm of her gathering up all the strays in the city.....? I get that the Author was trying to add an element to Alice's character to add interest to the story but it was unrealistic and the way that she was trying to hoard them, not healthy. It all worked out in the end in the warmest fuzzy way but I wish the focus had stayed in the realm of her official capacity.
Hunter, ummmm who could say no to that?? I liked how his character was written from beginning to end. The ending was satisfying and much better than the first book. I recommend this one.
The story kept things real and interesting. The chapters were a bit long but a good style of writing is awesome.
I love reading Jordan's books. They are fun, romantic, and can be intense. This book is one of my favorites. I love animals as much as Alice. If you enjoy dogs for pets, good looking vampires, and intense flirting, you will enjoy this book. It is the second in A Romance in Central City series
This book is a wonderful vampire romance story and it never fails to amaze me. I really liked the part about the GOT, just a great way to add to the story.
So far this series has enchanted me. I l e the characters and how they seem to make the plot your own. The writing is delightful a d makes you feel part of the story. The storyline becomes part of your fantasy. Highly recommend this series to all the fantasy lovers out there.
